The purpose of using the EULYNX adapter is to advance the digitization process of the railway industry. Pilz is driving this development together with ProRail, the largest rail infrastructure operator in the Netherlands. The EULYNX adapter is an important milestone for the open railway market based on digital train control systems.
Pilz’s safety automation system PSS 4000 is the hardware basis for the EULYNX adapter. With its special railway module, the automation system PSS 4000 has been used for control and monitoring functions in a wide range of railway applications. It can be used to convert incoming signals, such as those entering or coming from a signal box, into control commands based on the communication protocol RaSTA, which can then be interpreted by the terminal device.
Thirteen of Europe’s largest operators, including Deutsche Bahn, ProRail Niederlande and SSB Schweiz, have joined forces on the European project EULYNX. Its goal is to develop and provide a unified industry standard for new modular signal box technologies. Operators, universities and other research partners are involved in the research project.
