Berlin (Reuters) – Automotive supplier Bosch said on Sunday it would need to cut up to 1,500 jobs at its two German plants by 2025 to adapt to changing needs and technology in the automotive industry.
The layoffs were first reported by German weekly Automobilwoche. “Like other companies, we have to adjust employment levels based on the order book, the structural changes driving the industry and the market penetration of future technologies,” a Bosch spokesman said in emailed comments.
“We believe that by the end of 2025, up to 1,500 people will need to be redeployed in the drive departments of the Feuerbach and Schwieberdingen plants in the areas of development, management and sales,” the spokesperson added.
Bosch said it was trying to achieve this by transferring employees to other departments, early retirement or voluntary redundancy agreements, adding that the group was in talks with the Labour council on the exact details.
Bosch said: “At the beginning of the year, the challenges we faced were much greater than expected… Even if we want to maintain our employment levels as much as possible through new products and extensive training measures, we have to adjust according to the order situation in certain areas.”
According to the report, Bosch confirmed that the company will not carry out compulsory redundancies at its German mobile business locations until the end of 2027.
