The Allen-Bradley 1756-L84ES is a GuardLogix controller that is part of the GuardLogix 5580 controller series. This controller is capable of implementing standard controller functions however, it also functions as a safety controller.

This GuardLogix controller is compatible for use in safety applications that require Safety Integrated Level (SIL) 3 and Performance Level (PL)e certified devices. Additionally, it comes with a 20MB standard, user memory and a dedicated safety memory amounting to 6MB. The additional of integration motion enable this controller to perform motion control over Ethernet I/P as it is capable of Serial Reatime Communication System (SERCOS) interface. The integrated safety features safety on the EtherNet/IP network (Kinetix drives, PowerFlex drives, safety components), Distribute and control safety I/O and Produce and consume safety tag data.

This controller supports programming languages mandated by the IEC-61131-3 standard such as Ladder Diagram (LD), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). For safety task, only ladder programming is supported.

The 1756-L84ES is capable of handling Thirty-One (31) standard tasks and One (1) safety task with 1000 programs per task, regardless of the task type. The built-in Ethernet I/P communication port allows this controller to handle up to 250 Ethernet I/P nodes with transmission speed of 10 / 100 and 1Gbps communication speed.

These controllers have features such as online editing, multiple programmers, advanced network field device connectivity, and a conformal coating.

The 1756-L84ES controller provides support for up to 250 EtherNet/IP nodes and it allows for safety communication options for the EtherNet, ControlNet, and DeviceNet networks. This controller is capable of implementing up to 31 standard tasks and 1 safety task. In addition to that, the 1756-L84ES controller allows up to 1000 programs per task and it features local I/O event triggers with no limits. The controller comes with a USB 2.0 built-in communication port and an embedded Ethernet port. The USB port supports full speeds of up to 12 megabits per second and an Ethernet performance of 10/100/1000 megabits per second. The 1756-L84ES controller features EtherNet/IP integrated motion and it supports several different programming languages for standard tasks. Also, the controller is used for the Ladder Diagram for safety tasks. The user memory of the controller is 20 megabytes while safety memory is 6 megabytes. For additional memory, the 1756-L84ES controller supports optional nonvolatile 2-gigabyte SD memory cards for storage.
