The Allen-Bradley 1756-EWEB, or Enhanced Web Server, is a module that provides access to information from the control system via a web browser. This also allows for the remote monitoring and modification of control system data, which is within the same chassis, using XML web pages. The 1756-EWEB module lets you route messages, flash upgrade modules, and upload or download programs. Thus, the 1756-EWEB module acts as a bridge to access the target device. Custom web pages that are fitting for your application can also be created through this module. With the ASP function, you can populate your web page with live controller data. This feature is limited because the 1756-EWEB module can only store up to 5 MB worth of web pages and data views. You can also create email messages through the 1756-EWEB module’s embedded email composer, as well as send an email initiated by a Logix controller using an MSG instruction. Note that when you use the interface to send an email, you need to enter all the email information every time. TCP or UDP communication links to other standard Ethernet devices can also be opened through the module. A 1756-EWEB module can support CIP connected messages of up to 128 connections for any combination of bridged messages, ASP function calls, and data calls and 32 end-node connections. Additionally, it can support up to 256 unconnected CIP messages, half of which can be from the Ethernet port to an object on the module or to the backplane and the other half can be from the backplane to an object on the module or the Ethernet port. One TCP connection is used for every IP address that the module is connected to and the module can support up to 64 TCP connections that will handle the CIP connections. Installing the1756-EWEB module is straightforward; you just need to align the module to a slot in the 1756 ControlLogix controller’s chassis, slide it in until it snaps into place, and then connect it to a network.
The Allen-Bradley 1756-EWEB is a ControlLogix communication module. This module is specifically an Ethernet I/P communication bridge module which permit remote access to the ControlLogix controller assembly including the user programs and hardware configuration.
The 1756-EWEB comes with a single RJ-45 Ethernet interface that supports a 10/100 Mbps transmission speed. When provided with an appropriate IP address, the module’s web server functionality may be accessed using a standard web browser.
The 1756-EWEB is a single slot module that install directly to a ControlLogix chassis. It may be installed to a local chassis, where the central ControlLogix chassis resides or to a distributed I/O station. It is compatible for installation with any ControlLogix chassis such as 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, and 1756-A17.
The 1756-EWEB supports use of any standard web browser when used for accessing of web pages generated by the module, create, edit data, and view web pages hosted by the module using Internet Explorer .5 or 6 with XML support. For simple code viewing, internet explorer 5.5 or 6 is compatible.
The 1756-EWEB’s web pages can be accessed using the default login credentials. The default username is Administrator without a password provided. When successfully logged-in, it is important to change the default log-in and provide a username and password that offers greater security.
