The IC697CPX928 90-70 module is indeed a central processing unit (CPU) module. It belongs to GE Fanuc’s 90-70 series and is mainly used to execute user programs downloaded into CPU memory. The IC697CPX928 is configured using programming software. It does not have jumper terminals or DIP switches for hardware parameter setting. Application software is programmed by MS-DOS software products or Windows-based software products that run on Windows 95 or Windows NT over Ethernet TCP/IP or via SNP ports.
The controller is equipped with seven (7) status leds, in particular a lithium battery for holding the contents of random access memory (RAM), and communication ports such as one (1) RS232 serial port, two (2) RS485 serial port, and one (1) factory reset port.
The IC697CPX928 is compatible with a variety of option modules to enhance the CPU and provide it with additional functionality. These optional modules include Ethernet interface modules, programmable coprocessors, alphanumeric coprocessors, bus controllers, communication modules, I/O link interfaces, and the entire IC697 family of discrete and analog I/O modules.
The nominal current required for the IC697CPX928 module is 3.1 amps. The required input voltage is 5 volts DC. The module features forced air cooling rated at 70 CFM and can operate at ambient temperatures ranging from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Without forced air cooling, the operating temperature range of the IC697CPX928 CPU module is reduced to 32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on the type of power supply available, 120 VAC, 240 VAC, or 24 DC powered rack fan assemblies can be installed on the IC697CPX928 module. The CPU module has three serial ports, of which two ports support RS-485 communication and one port supports RS-232 communication. These serial ports can be used to interface with programming devices for CPU configuration. In addition, an optional Ethernet module can also be installed in the PLC to configure the IC697CPX928 module over Ethernet. The IC697CPX928 module supports up to 8,000 analog I/ OS and 12,000 any combination of I/ OS. The IC697CPX928 module requires one slot in the GE Fanuc Series 90-70 PLC rack.
