As we all know, China’s power production, transmission and power supply methods are basically used for AC 50Hz three-phase system, that is, our daily power supply line is AC electricity.
But in fact, many electronic products, electrical equipment control part of the circuit, etc., need to use direct current, such as the drive part of the leakage protector, clamp ammeter interior, frequency converter, LED drive circuit and so on. So how do we turn the alternating current of a power source into direct current?
The form of power conversion that converts alternating current to direct current is called rectification (AC/DC conversion), the appliance used is called a rectifier, and the corresponding circuit is called a rectifier circuit.
The rectifier bridge is a kind of rectifier, in addition, it can be said that the rectifier diode is the simplest rectifier. But how does a bridge convert alternating current into direct current? In order for you to quickly understand, I will start with the simplest rectifier diode.
A rectifier circuit based on a rectifier diode
The diode has unidirectional conductivity, so its pin to distinguish between positive and negative (anode and cathode), for example, as shown in Figure 1-1, the left is the rectifier diode, one end of the gray ring is the cathode (negative), the right is the LED diode, and the short foot corresponds to the cathode.

The so-called unidirectional conductivity means that the diode current can only flow from the anode through the tube to the cathode, as shown in Figure 1-2 below, at this time the anode potential is higher than the cathode potential, which is the positive guide of the diode. If the cathode potential of the diode is higher than the anode, the diode will not have current flowing, which is equivalent to an open circuit, which is the reverse cut-off of the diode.

When the diode is passing through, the tube voltage drop is sometimes ignored, that is, the diode is short-circuited, in fact, there is a voltage drop at both ends of the diode, generally a few tenths of a volt.
Based on the unidirectional conductivity of the diode, its rectifier circuit is shown in Figure 1-3, and only one diode can realize the conversion of alternating current into direct current. The input voltage is sinusoidal alternating current, and the waveform is divided into positive and negative halves.
