The NI SCXI-1163 (Part Number: 776572-63) is an isolated Digital Output Module. There are 32 channels available on this module, which are organized into eight isolated banks with four output lines each. The SCXI-1163 has the capability to interface to field digital logic signals, removing ground-loop issues and segregating the host computer from harmful voltages. This Digital I/O Module can be controlled via the SCXIbus. Thus, it can be integrated with ease into existing SCXI systems and does not require more DAQ instruments or cabling. This module can additionally function in parallel mode if it is cabled straight to a plug-in DIO instrument. It is compatible with most TTL and CMOS logic.
When the NI SCXI 1163 Digital I/O Module is in multiplexed mode, the digital output lines or relays are controlled by digital lines on the DAQ instrument. A bit set to logic high creates a logic high at the related output line. If the National Instruments SCXI-1163 module is in multiplexed mode, updates are sent to the module by the controlling DAQ instrument via the SCXIbus. The NI-DAQ 7 driver software allows the user to update all lines at 600 updates per second–a single update links to all 32 lines. The driver is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. Additionally, there is a parallel interface to the back signal connector, which is meant for parallel mode. During parallel mode, update rates are based on propagation delays for the module and on the highest update rate of the DIO instrument in charge.
